1.<\/strong><\/a>Introduction\u3000<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The main purpose of this page is to help students learn about Waseda University Library and make full use of its services. We have compiled a list of things that you should know to search various types of academic information for researching and\u00a0writing reports and papers.<\/span><\/p>\n

2.<\/strong><\/a>About Waseda University Library<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Here is some information about Waseda University Library and its collections.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Waseda University has more than 20 libraries and reading rooms, each of which collects its own materials. The materials are largely divided into “print materials” and “electronic materials”.<\/p>\n

Waseda University Library has one of the largest collections in Japan.\u00a0You can use the search system provided by the library to find the location of the item and its availability.<\/p>\n

You can also search the holdings of the Keio University Library, which is a partner library.<\/p>\n

\nTo access the search system, please visit the Waseda University Library website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The library website also introduces various services, library opening information, and information on events and exhibitions, so please check it out whenever you have time.<\/p>\n

The search system you will use most frequently from now on is called WINE, which is found in the “Search & Find” menu.
\nPlease move the cursor to the “Search & Find” menu and click on “Discovery Service (WINE)”.<\/p>\n

\u25ceSearch System \u2460 : WINE<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the WINE<\/a> interface.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

WINE is a database to search materials and leads you to access them. In addition to print materials and locations of Waseda University Library, you can also search for electronic resources that the University subscribes to.<\/p>\n

If you cannot find a material from Waseda University’s collection, you can also use WINE to search Keio University’s collection. You can also check the materials you are borrowing and renew the due date online.<\/p>\n

To use all features, you need to log in with your Waseda e-mail address and password.

\u25ceSearch System \u2461 : Waseda E-Resource Portal<\/strong><\/p>\n

The second search system we will introduce is “Waseda E-resource Portal<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n

You can access it by clicking \u201cWaseda E-resource Portal\u201d at the top of the WINE\u00a0 (you can also access it via the Waseda University Library website > Search & Find > Waseda E-resource Portal).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

This is a portal site where you can find academic information resources such as databases and electronic resources subscribed to by the University and useful websites selected by the library.<\/p>\n

Waseda University Library subscribes to many databases.\u00a0Among them, “Recommended Databases” provides quick access to basic databases selected by the library. We hope you will make good use of them.<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong><\/a>Off-Campus Access<\/strong><\/h4>\n

To access the databases, electronic journals, and e-books subscribed to by Waseda University from off-campus locations such as your home, you must use the off-campus access<\/a> system. If you are prompted for authentication when logging in to a database, please log in using your Waseda email address and password. (Please note that off-campus access is not available for some databases.)<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong><\/a>Visiting the other library and ILL(InterLibrary Loan)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

If there are materials that are not available at Waseda University Library, consider visiting other university libraries or using interlibrary loan services to obtain the materials if they seem to be held at other libraries.<\/p>\n

\u25ceHow to apply for visiting non-Waseda Libraries or Interlibrary Loan service<\/strong><\/p>\n

You can apply from MyWaseda (“Library Online Request Form”).<\/p>\n

After you login to MyWaseda, click “Research” tub, then click “Library Online Request” which appears on the right side.<\/p>\n

\u25ceMaterial Transferring Service between Waseda Libraries *this service is only for between distant campuses<\/strong><\/p>\n

You can request to transfer material located at a distant campus via WINE.\u00a0After sign in WINE, make a reservation for a book from \u201cRequest\u201d in the search results.<\/p>\n

* You may request an item that is only available at Tokorozawa campus to pick up at Waseda\/Toyama\/Nishi-waseda campus. If you are a Tokorozawa Library user, you can request an item available at Waseda\/Toyama\/Nishi-waseda campus to pick up at Tokorozawa campus.<\/p>\n

6.<\/strong><\/a>Search for other\u00a0institutions<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Even if you couldn\u2019t find the book you need at Waseda, as explained in Chapter 5, you still have a possibility to order it from the other institution, or to visit the institution to use it.\u00a0So keep on trying to search on Waseda, then Keio University, then other Japanese universities, and institutions outside of Japan.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We have a cooperative agreement with Keio University Library. Especially when you apply for Interlibrary Loan (ILL), we transport materials between Waseda and Keio using a special car, so both actual and copied materials can be delivered more quickly than other university libraries.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the order of searching for other institutions is: Keio (WINE or KOSMOS) -> University libraries in Japan (CiNii Research) -> University libraries overseas (WorldCat).<\/p>\n

You cannot find most of the holdings of Waseda and Keio books by CiNii Books, so please search in WINE (KOSMOS).<\/p>\n

To search other institutions, you can use the databases from Waseda E-resource Portal. KOSMOS, CiNii Research and WorldCat are compiled in Recommended Databases.<\/p>\n

\uff17.<\/strong><\/a>Research NAVI<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Research NAVI<\/a> is a collection of guides edited by librarians. These guides are categorized by material types and topics.\u00a0Recommended resources, databases and websites are listed on the guides. Please refer to them when you start your research.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

8.<\/a>Reference service<\/strong><\/h4>\n

If you have any questions about library, or how to find materials, you can ask questions through \u201cOnline Reference\u201d by Library Online Request Form. You can also visit Reference Desk. The library staff will support you face to face.<\/p>\n

At the Learning Assistant Desk, graduate student assistants are available for study consultation on reports, thesis, and to answer questions about how to find library materials.<\/p>\n

In addition to the Central Library, LA desks are available at the Science and Engineering Students’ Reading Room and Tokorozawa Library, so please use them according to your purpose.<\/p>\n
