Special Entry to Waseda University Libraries *Updated November 17, 2020

Libraries have offered special entry service. In this service, we offer some parts of library services. Please confirm details by following contents. This service may be stopped or reduced suddenly depending on the situation of the novel coronavirus.

(Nov. 17 2020) Several restrictions are removed.

You need to agree to all of the following cautions for special entry to the Library.
  1. Entry may be restricted if the number of visitors exceeds a maximum allowed.
  2. You must keep following rules in the libraries. Library staff may reject your entry if you do not obey.
    – Wear a mask or a substitute of it.
    – Disinfect your hands when you enter and leave the libraries.
    – Keep an enough distance from other users or library staffs.
  3. Please do not visit the libraries when you do not feel well, for example, you have a fever.
  4. You cannot use a part of facilities and materials depending on the situation.
  5. Do not disinfect library materials by yourself.
  6. Please disinfect your hands on your own responsibility before/after using library facilities and materials. We clean and disinfect the inside of the libraries, but ask you to forgive any imperfection.
  7. Library will keep the record of entries for a while in preparation for the infection occurs.

1 Libraries and opening schedule

※ Libraries and reading rooms open regular hours starting from the Autumn Semester 2020 (Sept. 23). Please check User guide No.23 for library hours.
※ The library available to you depends on your qualification. Please check User guide No.23.

2 Eligible users

  • University ID card holders【Students including Non-degree course and Art & Architecture School, Faculties, Staff and High School Students】
  • Professor Emeritus
  • Library card (Green, Blue or Red) users such as Visiting Researcher, Research Fellow, JSPS Research Fellow, Adjunct Researcher, Instructor at the Extension Center, e-School Education Coach, Teaching Assistant & Research Assistant, Researchers or Assistants in the research institutions of Waseda, and etc.
  • Alumni, Open college members* (Extension Center), Waseda Supporters Club member* (Users marked * can use Central Library Only.)

※ All visitors other than the above can only use the materials stored in the Special Collections and Rare Book Collections of the Central Library. Please check “Using Materials in Special Collections” from the following URL. https://www.waseda.jp/library/en/collections/materials/

3 Main contents

  • Borrowing library materials (Except users do not have borrowing privilege.)
  • Browsing library materials
  • Copying library materials
  • Receiving the materials which you have already requested by ILL service.
  • Issuing or renewing the library card. (For library card users)
  • Using the reading rooms (There is a limit to the number of seats to avoid crowding.)
Besides, libraries restrict following acts.
  • Talking and group use in the libraries (Group study facilities in each library are not available.)
  • Other acts defined by libraries

4 How to use

①Confirm that you have your ID card of Waseda University.
  • [For University ID card holders] A student or faculty/staff ID is required to use library services. If you don’t have it yet, please consult the office you are belonging to first.
  • [For alumni] Please prepare your Waseda Card or Alumni Association Card. For more details from here (In Japanese only). You will also be asked to provide your contact information on the “Application Form for Special Entry to the Library”.
  • [For library card users] If you come to libraries for the first time, we will issue/renew the library card for you at the Information Desk of the Central Library on the second floor. If you have the library card but expired, please bring it with you. For more details from here.
②Confirm the way to enter the libraries where you would like to visit (*A part of libraries needs advance reservation).
  • Entries to libraries other than following library are admitted without reservations.
  • Theatre Museum Library will need advance reservation. For details, please refer to this link (Japanese version only).
  • If you would like to use materials whose locations are Mathematics, Psychology rooms of School of Education, please contact the room directly before you visit. They are NOT available at the Education Faculty Reading Room or Student Reading Room.
