Professor Shigemoto joined WBS (Waseda Business School) in 2019. She has broad professional experience in business and finance in the public and private sectors as well as academia. Prior to joining WBS, she taught business ethics at Rutgers Business School in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Before pursuing her Ph.D. as a Fulbright scholar, Professor Shigemoto was involved in corporate research\/evaluation as a financial investigator of the Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission (SESC) of the Financial Services Agency (FSA), as a rating analyst at Moody\u2019s, and as an equity research analyst at Citigroup. She was awarded the Society for Business Ethics Founders\u2019 Award in 2012 and 2013.<\/p>\n

The business sector is expected to be one of the primary contributors to building a sustainable society in the context of the UN\u2019s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This presentation will provide a brief overview of business responsibility with respect to several important components of the SDGs. For example, business responsibilities for protecting the environment and human rights, and the role of collaboration with governments and international organizations to address climate change. The findings are based on discussions with various stakeholders in the business sector including corporations, employees, institutional and individual investors, financiers, engineers and scientists, supply chain partners and customers among others.<\/p>\n

The presentation will also address two important roles for business schools in realizing a sustainable society for the next generation: fostering responsible business leaders who deeply understand corporate social responsibility (CSR) and efforts by management scholars to better identify the meaning of business sustainability.<\/p>\n
