In the summer of 1916, after the tsarist government suddenly issued the labour mobilization call to the war, a great revolt occurred throughout Russian Central Asia. As is well known, fearing the tsarist government counter-insurgency campaign, not only the rebels but also many other local peoples fled to Xinjiang, which was then under the rule of the Republic of China. This workshop aims to reconsider from the broader perspective the impact of the influx and repatriation of refugees on the socio-political process based on the primary sources both of China and Russia.<\/p>\n
