Such stereotypes also fail to account for the challenges of raising children in a rapidly modernizing world, full of globalizing values.\u00a0My recent book\u00a0<em>Raising Global Families: Parenting, Immigration, and Class in Taiwan and the US <\/em>(Stanford 2018)\u00a0examines how ethnic Chinese parents in Taiwan and the United States negotiate cultural differences and class inequality to raise children in the contexts of globalization and immigration.\u00a0This talk\u00a0compares the professional middle class in Taiwan and their immigrant counterparts in\u00a0Boston to examine how parents enact different childrearing strategies to negotiate cultural boundaries and mobilize educational resources across borders.
