There is an ever-growing body of evidence however that supports the notion that preferences and behavior are often constructed, not merely revealed, in the elicitation process. This phenomenon can be contingent on the type of elicitation method, the framing of the elicitation question, and the different contexts of the experiment. This seminar will describe how subjects’ behavior in auction and choice experiments are affected, at least empirically, by the different contexts upon which the experiment was conducted and by the set of conditions under consideration. A number of empirical examples conducted by the author and colleagues will be given to show that even relatively small changes in the context of the experiment can modify subjects’ behavior and valuation estimates in auction and choice experiments. This is an important issue since it has significant implications for findings of auction and choice experiments generally used not just for business applications but also for important welfare and policy analysis.

対　象 / Prospected Audience

Faculty and staff members of a university, grad students, undergraduates, the general public

主　催 / Organizer

Institute of Japan – U.S. Studies, Organization for Regional and Inter-regional Studies (ORIS), Waseda University
Institute of Inter-regional studies, Organization for Regional and Inter-regional Studies (ORIS), Waseda University
Institute of Advanced Social Sciences, Waseda University
Waseda Institute of Advanced Studies, Waseda University

申込み / Registration

Free of charge.
