While existing work emphasizes heterogeneity in firm productivity, size, and financial constraints, far less is known about how the transition from private to public status affects growth and aggregate fluctuations. I develop quantitative models in which firms endogenously choose whether and when to go public, showing that cyclical variation in IPO access can slow the expansion of productive firms, dampen investment and job creation, and amplify business cycle dynamics. Beyond short-run fluctuations, this framework provides a foundation for analyzing how IPO dynamics shape long-run economic structure, such as market concentration and resulting inequality.
