This symposium brings together leading scholars and practitioners from diverse disciplines—including gerontology, geriatrics, social welfare, engineering, artificial intelligence and robotics, law, public policy, and sociology—from both countries to explore innovative and sustainable models of elderly care.

Focusing on the integration of AI and robotics into home- and community-based care, the symposium will address how technological advances can be leveraged to support aging-in-place and foster autonomy, dignity, and well-being among older adults. Through keynote lectures and interdisciplinary panel discussions, we aim to share knowledge, exchange cross-cultural experiences, and stimulate dialogue on how to build integrated care systems that are both person-centered and technologically empowered. By bridging perspectives from China and Japan, the symposium aspires to contribute to a future where elderly individuals can thrive within their communities through responsive and inclusive care solutions.

プログラム／Program

Moderator: Zi YAN (Waseda University)

Opening ceremony (09:30-09:40)
09:00-09:30 Arrival
09:30-09:40 Opening remark: Tomoyasu IIYAMA (Waseda University)
Guest Greeting

■Morning session I (09:40-10:50)
Topic: Aging in Place — Evolving Models of Home- and Community-Based Care in China and Japan

This session will explore the shifting paradigms of elderly care in both countries, with a focus on policy frameworks, service delivery models, and the cultural contexts that shape “aging in place.” Comparative perspectives will highlight challenges and innovations in building sustainable, person-centered care systems.

09:40-10:00 Presentation: Yumika SHIRASE (Hitotsubashi University)
10:00-10:20 Presentation: Fang GUO (Doshisha University)
10:20-10:40 Presentation: Jing XIONG (Shanghai Jiao Tong University)
10:40-10:50 Q&A

■Morning session II (10:50-12:00)

10:50-11:10 Presentation: Ting YIN (Toyo University)
11: 10-11:30 Presentation: Zi YAN (Waseda University)
11:30-11:50 Presentation: Fan YANG (Shanghai Jiao Tong University)
11:50-12:00 Q&A

12:00-12:50 Lunch Break

■Afternoon session I (13:00-14:10)
Topic: AI and Robotic Technologies in Alleviating Caregiver Burden
This session will examine how artificial intelligence and robotics are being integrated into eldercare settings to support both formal and informal caregivers.
