Rebel groups are committing an increasing number of human rights violations. However, the reasons behind their violence against civilians have not been fully developed. This research project aims to contribute to the understanding of the dynamics of rebel violence during armed conflict by examining when and how rebel groups are likely to commit human rights violations, and what types of human rights violations they are likely to commit. In addition, this research is important because research on human rights violations in conflict zones can contribute not only to the protection of humanitarian violations in conflict zones, but also to examine broader and more detailed studies of conflict research, such as conflict resolution and conflict management, and to understand why people use violence against others and even why armed conflicts occur.

Monthly Spotlight

[Monthly Spotlight] is focusing on a researcher to introduce his/her research.
Considering children’s human rights in conflict zones

Education and Academic Employment

Education

2020-2022

PhD in Government (Political Science), University of Essex

2018-2024

PhD in Political Science Withdrawal, Waseda University

2015-2017

MA in Political Science, Korea University

2011-2015

BA in Political Science, Waseda University

Fields of Research Interests

Civil war, Human rights violations, Child soldiers, Rebel groups

Academic Publications

[Peer-reviewed article]

Yang, Yun Jung.
