Hawaii was one of the first U.S. states to introduce 100% clean energy and carbon neutrality targets by 2045. The state\u2019s energy landscape is different from those in the rest of the U.S. or Japan, but these regions share common policy challenges of efficient and equitable energy transitions. With exceptionally high penetration of solar energy in the residential sector and high reliance on imported petroleum, Hawaii\u2019s case study serves as a \u201cpostcard from the future\u201d that hints at the policy challenges to be faced in the rest of the U.S. and Japan.
