Open Lecture \u2013\u00a0“The Ideological Aesthetic: The ‘Political’ as Inevitable and Epiphenomenal” (May 14)<\/h4>\n

Overview<\/h5>\n

Udith Dematagoda and Christos Asomatos present their forthcoming article, which puts forward the concept of the Ideological Aesthetic; a theory which aims to explicate the hypertrophy of the \u2018political\u2019 in relation to contemporary art, literature and culture.<\/p>\n

Using a critique of Nicholas Bourriaud\u2019s 2016\u2019s work The Exform as a starting point, we explore Bourriaud\u2019s engagement with contemporary art, Walter Benjamin, Louis Althusser\u2019s theory of ideology and its most recent re-appraisal – alongside the thought of controversial political theorist Carl Schmitt.<\/p>\n
