第二言語を習得したり留学したりすることによる言語使用（プラグマティックス、モダリティ表現など）、文化理解、アイデンティティの変遷について研究を行っています。ほかにもオノマトペに関する研究もしています。また、言語教育については、現在、読解の教育に最も関心があります。
