From England to WASEDA<\/p>\nFrom England to WASEDA<\/p>\n
Zoe Vincent I became interested in Japan when I was in high school after hearing my grandfather talk about working in Tokyo in the 1960s. Around that time, I started to listen to music by Hikaru Utada. I wondered what the meaning was behind the comfortable lyrics\u2026and thus grew my interest in the Japanese language.<\/p>\n Zoe (right) and her grandfather (left) in front of Osaka Castle.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/p>\n I am so happy to be in Japan today. I am making the most of my university life in Japan\u2014traveling throughout the country, experiencing many new things, and making friends from all over the world. My most precious experience was visiting Osaka Castle. In 1964, my grandfather took a picture standing in front of the castle. In 2014 spring vacation, I also visited Osaka Castle and took a picture in the same spot.<\/p>\n With homestay family in Mogami-machi, Yamagata Prefecture (Zoe is third from right)<\/p><\/div>\n Another wonderful experience was the homestay that I did in Mogami-machi, located in Mogami-gun, Yamagata Prefecture. This opportunity was made possible by my participation in the ICC Homestay Program. If I had not participated in the ICC Program, I would not have visited this region. My time in Mogami-machi lead me to develop an interest in becoming a Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) in the JET Program (The Japan Exchange and Teaching Program, the business that young people living overseas invited by local authorities.) \nStudents majoring in Japanese at the University of Edinburgh (England) have the special opportunity to study at a Japanese university for their junior year.
