Their especially springy medium-thick noodles go well with the rich soy sauce and sesame oil-based sauce. Adding the house vinegar and chili oil to taste whet’s the appetite and creates a wonderful smell. You can also add Tokyo Menchintei’s garlic sauce or extra spicy “doro togarashi” (thick red pepper sauce) for a different flavor. Interestingly, the current manager was actually a regular customer ten years ago. Super sizing is free and the 4-tama “oni-mori” (“demon-size helping”) is just ¥1,000. Thanks to its lack of broth, abura soba is actually lower in calories than ramen. It’s perfect for health-conscious people.

Name

Tokyo Menchintei Honpo – Nishiwaseda location

Address

2-3-25 Nishiwaseda, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo

Phone

03-5292-9711

Hours

Mon.–Sat. 11:00 a.m.–3:00 a.m.
Sun./hol. 11:00 a.m.–12:00 a.m.

Featured menu item

Abura soba

Price

¥600 (tax incl.)

Tokyo Menchintei Honpo Abura soba – a new Tokyo signature dish?
