April 2025 Top 5! Merci, Campus Shop Map, Baba-aruki- Selected by Waseda University Student Readers

Waseda Weekly publishes a variety of articles, including "Focus," which features various on-campus systems, facilities, events, and points to be aware of, "People," which introduces students who are active both on and off campus, as well as articles about Alumnus and Professor, alumni and student club active in various fields, and even stories of studying abroad and solutions to everyday problems.

We have also introduced a Waseda University student reader monitor system, where articles are rated weekly. Each article is rated from 1 to 5 stars, and we receive feedback, both positive and negative, which we use to create better articles. This time, we will introduce the articles published between April 1, 2025 and April 30, 2025, in order of highest reader monitor rating, along with actual comments!

1. < My Waseda Cuisine >  "Our home for heart and will" is written as "Merci" and pronounced as "Merci" A legendary local Chinese restaurant that Waseda is proud of  (released April 11, 2025)

As the stores around the station are constantly changing, it was a huge shock when Merci temporarily closed. However, I hope that it will reopen and new students will get to know the store and the Waseda atmosphere, so that it can continue to develop as a student town for a long time to come. (2nd year School of Education)

It was great to read things I wouldn't know unless I read Waseda Weekly, such as the fact that the restaurant once closed and that it still has a Western menu, a remnant of its days as a coffee shop. (2nd year School of Culture, Media and Society)

2.< Focus > [Campus Store Map] Packed with useful information to spend your lunch and break time comfortably! (Published April 28, 2025)

This article, which covers everything I was curious about at the time, is definitely one to keep forever! After enrolling, it's easy to gather information about classes and student club through Professor and seniors, but since classes are the main focus at university, lunch is secondary. There were so many things I didn't know, like where to eat lunch every day, what is sold where, and which restaurants have good food. Moreover, as a first-year student whose schedule overlaps lunchtime every day, it's essential to eat a good lunch so I can concentrate on my studies! Reading this article and learning about the on-campus store and lunch spots has inspired me to be more adventurous with my lunches from now on! I hope you continue to write articles with information about food! I'd like to give this article 10 stars instead of 5! (First-year School of International Liberal Studies)

I learned about the locations of co-ops and convenience stores I'd never been to before, and I'll definitely try to visit them in the future! The information that they only accept cash was also very helpful! (1st year School of Law)

3. < Special Issue >"Baba-aruki" Excavation Map: Now and Then! A Collection of Spots that Add Color to the Student Life of Waseda University Students (Published April 14, 2025)

On my way from Nishiwaseda Station to Central Library, I passed the entrance of Chayamachi Dori that Dr. Shunsuke Ike (Faculty of Education and Integrated Arts and Sciences Professor) had introduced, so I was surprised to realize, “That's the street he was talking about!”! I would like to walk it next time while thinking of two things: "There was baba which was the origin of the name of Takadanobaba" and "It was a road used by Waseda students in the old days". (Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering 1st year master's student)

Although the people were from different occupations and generations, their writing was so well-written that I could picture the scene from that time. What particularly impressed me was that both Mayor Angola and Takayuki Yorifuji, who are from different generations, chose "Tanpopo House." I also thought it was wonderful that after introducing a number of recommended spots and captivating the reader, they concluded by discussing the essence and significance of "Baba-aruki." 4. Introducing convenient services and facilities at Waseda University [2025 Entrance Commemorative Edition] (Published April 7, 2025)

Many of the programs I use in my own student life, such as Sapoeni and the medical expense benefit system, were opportunities for me to learn more about them. At the same time, I was very interested in facilities I hadn't used before, such as gyms, and I wanted to take advantage of new systems and services this year. (2nd year School of Culture, Media and Society)

There were several services and facilities that I learned about for the first time as a fourth-year student, and I regretted not starting to read Waseda Weekly sooner. (Fourth-year School of Culture, Media and Society)

5. List of events for new students in April and May [2025 Enrollment Commemorative Edition]  (Published April 2, 2024)

I am currently a third-year student, and I regret that if I had known this information in my first year, I might have been able to make the most of my university life. I would encourage all new students to read articles like this and make the most of their time at Waseda University. (Third-year School of Human Sciences)

It was very helpful because it contained information that I would not have been able to gather on my own. (1st year School of Humanities and Social Sciences)
