"Waseda University VTuber Study Group"
Second generation official VTuber, Satsuki Hayamine, 2nd year student at the Department of Virtual Culture
Satsuki Hayamine
Hello everyone! I'm Satsuki Hayamine. I'm a second-year student in the Department of Virtual Culture who loves singing, games, and VTubers. I'm currently working as the second official VTuber of the student club VTuber Study Group! From here on, I'll hand the baton over to a member of the VTuber Study Group to introduce V-Ken!
Secretary General Akinari Kurachi, 4th year School of Culture, Media and Society
Waseda University VTuber Study Group (hereinafter referred to as V-Ken) is an intercollegiate student club that plans and manages VTubers, publishes journals and research magazines, conducts VTuber research, and collaborates with VTuber student club at other universities. VTuber is a general term for a person who uses a character avatar drawn in 2DCG or 3DCG, or a distributor who posts videos or broadcasts live using such avatars, mainly on the Internet and other media.
In planning and managing VTubers, I think up the content of the official VTuber videos and edit them. Apparently, preparations are underway for the third official VTuber...
We publish two journals: "VTrue," which collects illustrations and essays from within student club, and "Waseda V Studies," which compiles research on VTubers collected from outside student club, for distribution at Comic Market and Literary Flea Markets. In VTuber research, we share and introduce recently published papers and books on VTubers to broaden our horizons. In collaboration with VTuber student club from other universities, we participate in V-yuni (Kanto V Student Federation) to share information and collaborate on projects with VTubers belonging to each student club.

The appeal of the V-Ken is that it allows you to feel closer to VTubers, who you only enjoyed watching as a hobby. Managing a VTuber requires more preparation than you might imagine. It's not only difficult to come up with the content, but you also have to maintain the frequency of broadcasts in your daily life and keep talking to the listeners on the other side of the screen, so I realized how difficult it is for the VTubers you see every day. I was originally a typical VTuber otaku, but learning about these hardships made me want to support VTubers even more. I also think it's great that you can experience things that will be useful in the future, from video editing and broadcasting methods, to model creation and interacting with students from other universities, going from just a hobby. Why not join the Waseda University VTuber Study Group and enjoy a different kind of fan activity?
