{"id":9357,"date":"2021-07-08T13:02:03","date_gmt":"2021-07-08T04:02:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/tokyo\/?p=9357"},"modified":"2021-07-08T13:05:39","modified_gmt":"2021-07-08T04:05:39","slug":"alumni-yuta-iwashita-and-yuto-agarie-informally-selected-to-represent-japan-in-handball-at-tokyo-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/tokyo\/news-en\/2021\/07\/08\/9357\/","title":{"rendered":"Alumni Yuta Iwashita and Yuto Agarie Informally Selected to Represent Japan in Handball at Tokyo 2020!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On June 27, the Japan Handball Association announced the informal selections of the players who will represent Japan in men\u2019s handball at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and alumni Yuta Iwashita (affiliated with TOYOTA BOSHOKU KYUSHU CORPORATION, graduated from the School of Sports Sciences in 2014) and Yuto Agarie (affiliated with ZEEKSTAR TOKYO, graduated from the School of Sports Sciences in 2016) were among those selected. The last time the Japanese men\u2019s handball team appeared in the Olympics was in the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games. They are participating in the event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games due to Japan being the host country.<\/p>\n<p>The representative selection looked at participation in the World Championship held this year in Egypt in January, and at training camp activities.<\/p>\n<p>In the World Championship, Iwashita showed off his incredible explosive power and made repeated stunning saves, and Agarie made his presence felt as a playmaker. He began playing handball in elementary school. He played in the World Championship in 2021. He is 1.83m tall, and his position is goalkeeper.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Yuto Agarie:<\/p>\n<p>Born in 1993 in Okinawa Prefecture, he graduated from Waseda University\u2019s School of Sports Sciences in 2016. In 2018, he played in the Asian Games, and he participated in the Asian Championship in 2020 (he was named Tournament MVP). He played in the World Championships in 2017, 2019, and 2021.
