Waseda alumni Takahiro Hasegawa (currently employed at Nippon Television Network Corporation, 2012 graduate of the School of Sports Sciences) has earned a place at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in the Archery Men\u2019s Recurve event.<\/p>\n

The final selection tournament for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Japan team took place on March 27 and 28 at the Yumenoshima Park archery field. Mr. Hasegawa, who participated in the Men\u2019s Individual Recurve* event, achieved a provisional first place at the end of the second round, and his selection was confirmed after achieving a total of 1849 points.<\/p>\n

*Recurve: A type of bow used in archery. This is the most common type of bow used in the Olympics and by archery organizations.<\/p>\n

Takahiro Hasegawa<\/p>\n

Born 1989, graduate of the Waseda University School of Sports Sciences. In his third year of elementary school, he developed a type of pediatric cancer known as Ewing’s sarcoma, and had to have is right leg amputated and replaced with an artificial one. He began archery in earnest in elementary school, and participated in the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games while enrolled at Waseda. There he ranked 16th in the individual events, and 4th in the group events. After graduating in 2012, he started working at Nippon Television Network Corporation, and is currently working as the director of the News Zero sports corner, while continuing to improve his skills.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
