On Saturday, September 28, Waseda University hosted a Rugby World Cup 2019TM<\/sup> 8K super hi-vision public viewing organized by NHK at Waseda Arena (Toyama Campus), which opened this past March.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alumni Ryohei Yamanaka (2011 graduate of the School of Sport Sciences and former member of the university rugby football club, currently playing for the Kobe Steel Kobelco Steelers) was a starting player in the game against Ireland, the second match for Japan. At the public viewing venue, alumni and former player for the Japanese national team, Masami Horikoshi (graduated in 1991 and is a former member of the university rugby football club) appeared as a guest to explain the points of the game.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over 1,400 people, including Waseda University officials, cheered on the efforts of the alumni and watched the game at the university on a giant 600-inch TV at a venue that was filled with a fever-pitch enthusiasm.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Japanese national team put up a good fight in the first half of the game and came away victorious over the Irish team ranked second in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n
