She graduated from Waseda University with a degree in education in 2004 and was a member of the skating club at Waseda University. She became Japan\u2019s first gold medalist in figure skating at the Winter Olympics in 2006 in Torino, Italy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1156\" src=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/tokyo\/assets\/uploads\/2018\/04\/7f2796e01f27712b94b7119491b6fbe6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"364\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/tokyo\/assets\/uploads\/2018\/04\/7f2796e01f27712b94b7119491b6fbe6.jpg 2894w, https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/tokyo\/assets\/uploads\/2018\/04\/7f2796e01f27712b94b7119491b6fbe6-610x481.jpg 610w, https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/tokyo\/assets\/uploads\/2018\/04\/7f2796e01f27712b94b7119491b6fbe6-768x606.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/tokyo\/assets\/uploads\/2018\/04\/7f2796e01f27712b94b7119491b6fbe6-940x742.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 364px) 100vw, 364px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Arakawa is the third Japanese in the Hall of Fame after Midori Ito, a silver medalist at the Albertville 1992 Winter Olympics, and Nobuo Sato who has trained many top athletes.<\/p>\n<p>Arakawa serves as vice president of the Japan Skating Association, while actively performing as a professional skater.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shizuka Arakawa was elected to the Figure Skating Hall of Fame on April 17, 2018.
