{"id":10286,"date":"2021-09-09T17:00:52","date_gmt":"2021-09-09T08:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/tokyo\/?p=10286"},"modified":"2021-09-09T17:00:52","modified_gmt":"2021-09-09T08:00:52","slug":"alumni-takayuki-suzuki-shines-winning-medals-in-all-five-events-at-the-tokyo-2020-paralympic-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/tokyo\/news-en\/2021\/09\/09\/10286\/","title":{"rendered":"Alumni Takayuki Suzuki Shines, Winning Medals in All Five Events at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Waseda University alumni Takayuki Suzuki won the silver medal in the men&#8217;s 50m freestyle (S4) held on Thursday, September 2, and he has now accomplished the incredible feat of winning medals in all the events that he competed in at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>After winning the bronze medal in the men&#8217;s 50m breaststroke (SB3) on August 25, Suzuki won the gold medal the following day on August 26 in the men&#8217;s 100m freestyle (S4), Japan&#8217;s first gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>He then continued to be on the podium for all the events he competed in, winning the bronze medal in the men&#8217;s 150m individual medley (SM4) on August 28, the silver medal in the men&#8217;s 200m freestyle (S4) on August 30, and the silver medal in the men&#8217;s 50m freestyle (S4) on September 2.<\/p>\n<p>The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games are Suzuki&#8217;s fifth consecutive Paralympics since the 2004 Athens Games, and he served as captain of the Japanese swimming team. He continues to inspire the team, with his five medals being the most he has earned at a single Paralympic Games, and winning gold for the first time in the 13 years since the 2008 Beijing Games.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Suzuki was the first Japanese athlete to be elected as an Athlete Member of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), voting for which took place in the Olympic Village and the event venues until September 3. Suzuki, competing in his fifth consecutive Paralympic Games and serving as captain of the Japanese swimming team, has given hope and courage to innumerable people, including sports fans at Waseda. Additionally, congratulations to Suzuki on being elected to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletes&#8217; Council.
