Waseda University alumni Takeshi Kamura (affiliated with Tonami Transportation Co., Ltd., graduated from the School of Sport Sciences in 2012) has secured his spot to participate in Men’s Doubles Badminton in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Badminton World Federation announced on May 28th that, until mid-June, it will not hold a new tournament during the Olympic qualifying period. As a result, the team of Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda (affiliated with Tonami Transportation Co., Ltd.), who are 2nd in the current Olympic qualifying rankings (5th in world rankings) have secured their spot as Olympics representatives. Kamura will be participating in the Olympics for the first time.

Takeshi Kamura:
Born in Saga Prefecture in 1990, he graduated from the Waseda University School of Sport Sciences in 2012. He began playing badminton when he was in elementary school. While attending Waseda University, he formed a team with Takuma Ueda, one year his senior, participating in and winning doubles at the 2008 and 2010 intercollegiate tournaments. He also claimed victory in men’s doubles at the 2015, 2016, and 2018 All Japan Badminton Championship where he played with Keigo Sonoda. In 2021, he participated in the British Open and placed second.
