Waseda alumni Shiho Yonekawa (currently employed at Toyota Motor Corporation, 2019 graduate of the School of Sports Sciences) came top in the rowing single scull qualifying race, which was held on February 24 and 25.
Due to the impact of the spread of the novel coronavirus disease since March last year, the Japanese qualifying races for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games had been postponed. This is the first time they have been held in around a year.

As a result, Yonekawa has been selected as the Japan representative in the women’s single scull event at the Asia and Oceania Olympic qualifier, to be held at the Sea Forest Waterway from May 5 to 7.
If she secures Japan’s spot in this qualifier, she will be selected as Japan’s representative for the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Let’s continue to cheer on Yonekawa.
