Fourth-Year Sports Sciences Student Miyabi Onitsuka Scores Silver in Snowboard Big Air at X Games

At X Games Aspen 2021, the extreme sports competition held in Aspen, Colorado, fourth-year Waseda sports science student Miyabi Onitsuka (affiliated with the Hoshino Resort team) took second place in the snowboard big air event on January 31.

Snowboard big air is an event where the competitors ride down a steep ramp and perform tricks in the air after launching off a large jump. Points are given for difficulty and completion. Big air became the newest official Olympic snowboarding event at Pyeongchang 2018.

In the final, competitors were scored on the best two of their total of five runs. Onitsuka landed a breathtaking move on her first run, scoring 47 of a total 50 points, then 39 points on her third run for a total of 86 points to take the silver medal.

Keep cheering for Miyabi!
