The FINA Champions Swim Series 2020 #2 was held in Beijing, China on January 18. At the event, Waseda alumni Daiya Seto (who graduated from the School of Sport Sciences in 2017 and is currently affiliated with ANA) participated in the men’s 200m butterfly, winning the event and achieving a new Japan record of 1:52:53.
This is a 44ms improvement over the previous record set by Takeshi Matsuda at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Only six months remain until the Tokyo Olympics, with the final qualifying Japan championships to be held in April. This is Mr. Seto’s second remarkable achievement after also setting a new world record at the end of 2019 for the short course individual medley. We hope that everyone will keep supporting him.
