How do these historical and historiographical shifts affect the way that we understand the modern Japanese city? This series of three talks will seek to answer this question by considering the metropolis as a spatial and material manifestation of the flows and counter-flows of Japanese social space and as a metropole, a site within the complex architecture of imperialism.
