He is teaching the “Applied Scaling & Classification Techniques in Political Science” course in the third quarter and has been actively publishing in the field of spatial theory of voting, comparative politics, and social media research beyond the text analysis that he teaches at Waseda. We assumes that ideological proximity to a specific newspaper affects the choice made by a consumer to read that newspaper. Newspapers will then compete among themselves to maximize their respective readership by finding an optimal placement in the ideological space. By doing this, we can estimate the ideological slant that would be chosen if newspapers maximized their readership in an interdependent environment wherein their payoffs are affected by also what other newspapers will do, and compare these positions with newspapers’ actual choices. We then empirically apply our model to the Italian case. We show that Italian newspapers appear largely to behave as theoretically expected, with minor exceptions. We also illustrate how the “ideological force” behind such conclusion must be sought in the competition among newspapers with respect to those subset of readers that can be identified as assiduous ones (i.e., their core readers), while the role played by infrequent/sporadic newspaper readers is much less relevant in this respect.
【Language/言語】English/ 英語
【Participants/ 対象】Open to all students, faculty members, and the general public/ 早稲田大学学部生、大学院生、教職員、一般
【Registration/ 事前申込】No registration required/ 不要

共催：SGU実証政治経済学拠点、現代政治経済研究所「世論調査方法論」研究部会
Co-sponsor: Center for Positive/Empirical Analysis of Political Economy, Waseda University and Research Project on Survey Methodology, WINPEC
連絡先：政治経済学術院・日野愛郎（airo@waseda.jp）
SGU実証政治経済学研究所・e-mail:sgu-pse-office@list.waseda.jp
Contacts: Airo Hino, Faculty of Political Science and Economics, Waseda University
Center for Positive/Empirical Analyses of Political Economy Waseda University
e-mail:sgu-pse-office@list.waseda.jp

早稲田大学スーパーグローバル大学創成支援事業 実証政治経済学拠点、ならびに、現代政治経済研究所の「世論調査方法論」研究部会では、11月26日（火）にLuigi Curini教授（University of Milan）を […]

[1
53,98
post-6596","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news-through-2023","tag-events","tag-eape
["GET
