On January 11 2018, the TGU Center for Positive\/Empirical Analysis of Political Economy<\/a>, together with the Waseda Institute for Advanced Studies (WIAS)<\/a> and the Organization for Regional and Inter-regional Studies (ORIS)<\/a>, hosted the international conference, \u201cWest-European politics in 2017.\u201d The event was organized by Hidetoshi Nakamura and Airo Hino of the Faculty of Political Science and Economics, and R\u00e9gis Dandoy of WIAS.<\/p>\n

The conference reflected major political events that took place in Western Europe in 2017 and their consequences. A call for papers was sent out in advance, and 12 papers were selected to give presentations at the conference. The participation in this event was free of charge and open to scholars and students interested in recent political events in Western Europe. The conference was divided into three panels based on the geographical division of the papers: comparative studies, France and Spain, and Germany and beyond containing four papers per panel.<\/p>\n

Those who submitted papers were asked to present their research as a five-page report and ten-minute oral presentation. This presentation was followed by a five-minute discussion by an assigned discussant, followed by a Q&A session of about 15 minutes with the other participants and the audience. Reports were distributed in advance to leave time for the discussants to prepare themselves. There were in total around 40 people in the audience, and lively discussions continued throughout the day.<\/p>\n
