Dr. Ben Whaley, associate professor of Japanese at the University of Calgary, discussed the connection between real-world issues and the experience found in video games as explored in his book, <em>Toward a Gameic World: New Rules of Engagement from Japanese Video Games<\/em> (University of Michigan Press, 2023).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-25098 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/sgu\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/07\/DSC05533-610x458.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"458\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/sgu\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/07\/DSC05533-610x458.jpg 610w, https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/sgu\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/07\/DSC05533-940x705.jpg 940w, https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/sgu\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/07\/DSC05533-360x270.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/sgu\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/07\/DSC05533-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/sgu\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/07\/DSC05533-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/sgu\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/07\/DSC05533-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/sgu\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/07\/DSC05533-720x540.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Whaley\u2019s position that video games play an important part in the interaction between players, their personal matters, and society was illustrated by including references to popular gaming titles such as <em>Disaster Reports<\/em> (\u300e\u7d76\u4f53\u7d76\u547d\u90fd\u5e02\u300f), <em>Catherine<\/em> (\u300e\u30ad\u30e3\u30b5\u30ea\u30f3\u300f), <em>Metal Gear Solid V<\/em> (\u300e\u30e1\u30bf\u30eb\u30ae\u30a2\u30bd\u30ea\u30c3\u30c9V\u300f), and <em>The World Ends with You<\/em> (\u300e\u3059\u3070\u3089\u3057\u304d\u3053\u306e\u305b\u304b\u3044\u300f).
