{"id":14660,"date":"2022-04-18T09:45:31","date_gmt":"2022-04-18T00:45:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/sgu\/?p=14660"},"modified":"2022-05-23T15:34:40","modified_gmt":"2022-05-23T06:34:40","slug":"prof-stensel-from-loughborough-university-uk-visited-japan-as-a-joint-appointment-faculty-member","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/sgu\/news-en\/2022\/04\/18\/14660\/","title":{"rendered":"Prof. Stensel from Loughborough University, UK, visits Japan as a Joint Appointment faculty member"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prof. David Stensel from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/\">Loughborough University<\/a>, UK, has arrived in Japan and will serve as a JA (Joint Appointment) faculty member for the 2022 academic year at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/healthpromotion\/\">Waseda University\u2019s Health Promotion: The Joy of Sports and Exercise Unit (Top Global University)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Stensel will give an intensive 15-lecture course on &#8220;Exercise Metabolism&#8221; from April 15 to April 27. Since some international students have not yet been able to visit Japan, the class will be conducted in a hybrid format of face-to-face and online (real-time).<\/p>\n<p>Due to COVID-19, the Unit was unable to host faculty members in person in the 2020 and 2021 academic years. Now that the travel requirements have been relaxed, we are able to welcome faculty members from overseas universities for the first time in two years.<\/p>\n<p>It is a very meaningful opportunity for students to directly enjoy learning based on the cutting-edge research results from Prof. Stensel, who has made remarkable research achievements in metabolism, nutrition, and medical-related fields.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14646 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/sgu\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Drstensel01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Prof. Stensel visited Waseda University&#8217;s Tokorozawa Campus and met with <a href=\"https:\/\/w-rdb.waseda.jp\/html\/100000055_en.html\">Prof. Koichiro Oka<\/a>, the Dean of the Graduate School of Sport Sciences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The course outline is as follows (taken from the syllabus)<\/strong><br \/>\nThis course will comprise a blend of lectures and tutorials. The lectures will address topical issues in the field of sport and exercise science supplemented by a recently published textbook edited by Professor Stensel. The tutorials will assist MSc and PhD students with their study design\/research protocols and any other research related issues they require advice on.
