<\/p>\nOn Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Waseda University held the \u201cHorizon Europe Seminar at Waseda University\u201d at Komatsu Hall, Building 121. The seminar was organized by the Center for Research Strategy, Waseda University, with the cooperation of Universit\u00e9 Libre de Bruxelles, FARI \u2013 AI for the Common Good, and the Waseda University Future Robotics Organization.<\/p>\n
The seminar was organized in response to Japan\u2019s association with Horizon Europe, the EU\u2019s research and innovation funding programme. Its purpose was to provide Waseda researchers, research support staff, and administrative staff with a practical introduction to Horizon Europe and to help them take the first step toward participation in European collaborative research. Participation in Horizon Europe requires an understanding of many practical issues, including how to identify calls, how to participate in international consortia, how to prepare proposals, how roles and responsibilities are assigned at the application stage, and how contracts and research management are handled after selection.<\/p>\n
The seminar opened with remarks by Professor Satoshi Inaba, Vice President for International Collaboration (Research) and Research Communications. Professor Hideyuki Sawada of the Waseda University Future Robotics Organization then introduced the main speaker, Mr. Rodolphe Doit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Mr. Rodolphe Doit\u00e9<\/p><\/div>\n
Mr. Doit\u00e9 is Head of the Program Management Hub at FARI \u2013 AI for the Common Good Institute. He has extensive practical experience in European competitive funding, strategic partnership building, research project design, consortium building, and coordination with the European Commission, particularly in relation to Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.<\/p>\n
The seminar covered a wide range of topics, including the overview of Horizon Europe, the significance of Japan\u2019s association, funding opportunities, key points for Japanese universities and researchers, how to search for calls, participation patterns, consortium building, and the proposal preparation process. It also addressed practical issues for research support and administrative staff, such as pre-application support, contracts, ethics, research data, budget management, and post-award management.<\/p>\n
At the beginning of the seminar, the Center for Research Strategy also provided a short briefing using materials kindly provided by the National Contact Point in Japan. This briefing explained the basic framework of Japan\u2019s association with Horizon Europe and key points for Japanese universities and research institutions considering participation.<\/p>\n
The seminar attracted participants from a broad range of fields and offices, including science and engineering, humanities and social sciences, international research areas, and research support divisions. The Q&A session was lively, reflecting strong interest in Horizon Europe and European collaborative research among Waseda researchers and staff.<\/p>\n

The seminar concluded with closing remarks by Professor Yasushi Matsunaga, Deputy Director of the Center for Research Strategy. The Center for Research Strategy regards this seminar as an important first step in strengthening Waseda\u2019s support for Horizon Europe participation and will continue to explore follow-up opportunities, including individual consultations and further information sessions.<\/p>\n
The Center for Research Strategy will continue to work with relevant partners to support Waseda researchers in developing opportunities for international collaborative research, including participation in Horizon Europe.<\/p>\n
