\nHorizon Europe Seminar at Waseda University
\nThe First Step toward European Collaborative Research: What to Do and Where to Start<\/p>\n

On July 30, 2026, in Brussels, Belgium, the Government of Japan signed an agreement to become associated with the EU research and innovation funding programme, Horizon Europe.
\nThis development is expected to make it easier for Japanese universities, research institutions, and companies to participate in international collaborative research networks centered in Europe. Under Pillar II, \u201cGlobal Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness,\u201d Japanese universities and research institutions will be able to apply for and receive funding in selected European collaborative research projects. This represents an important opportunity to develop concrete research collaboration with European institutions.
\nAt the same time, participation in Horizon Europe requires an understanding of many practical issues, including how to identify Calls, how to participate in international consortia, how to prepare proposals, how roles and responsibilities are assigned at the application stage, and how contracts and research management are handled after selection.
\nTo support Waseda researchers and research support staff in taking their first step, the Center for Research Strategy will host an internal seminar. The main speaker will be Mr. Rodolphe Doit\u00e9 of FARI – AI for the Common Good Institute, a Brussels-based AI research institute. Mr. Doit\u00e9 has extensive practical experience in EU research funding and research coordination, especially in relation to Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.
\nThis seminar is not limited to AI or robotics, as information will be provided on the entire Horizon Europe Programme. Researchers and staff from any field who are interested in Horizon Europe, European collaborative research, or research support for international funding schemes are welcome to participate.<\/p>\n

This seminar takes place within the framework of the long-standing partnership between Waseda University and the Universit\u00e9 Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). Since a Privileged Partnership agreement in 2010, Waseda has become ULB’s principal partner in Japan. This relationship has been anchored since 2016 by the Waseda Brussels Office (WBO), Waseda’s European representation office hosted on ULB’s Campus, which has since organised 5 international conferences, 28 workshops and seminars and 2 sessions presenting the dozen joint scientific publications produced through the collaboration.<\/p>\n

Rodolphe Doit\u00e9 leads the Program Management Hub at FARI – AI for the Common Good Institute, where he drives strategic partnership building, research project design and funding, and stakeholder engagement across the Brussels-Capital Region\u2019s research and innovation ecosystem. He specializes in securing European competitive funding, coordinating project submissions from consortium building through to negotiation with the European Commission.<\/p>\n

With eight years in European public affairs, he brings deep experience in Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. Throughout his career, starting at CNRS, he supported the submission of 70+ European projects. He also worked on and managed 10+ EU research and innovation projects at the interface of research and innovation policy, digital transformation, climate and governance.<\/p>\n

He holds degrees in European Law, Economics and Management from Ecole Normale Sup\u00e9rieure Rennes and in International Relations Law from Universit\u00e9 Paris Nanterre.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
