{"id":68441,"date":"2016-04-22T18:16:23","date_gmt":"2016-04-22T09:16:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/research\/?p=68441"},"modified":"2019-01-22T18:17:39","modified_gmt":"2019-01-22T09:17:39","slug":"what-is-time-13-researchers-take-an-interdisciplinary-approach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/research\/news-en\/68441","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;What is time?&#8221; 13 researchers take an interdisciplinary approach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/wias\/eng\/\">Waseda Institute for Advanced Studies <\/a>(WIAS) hosted an event entitled \u201cUniversity-Based Institutes for Advanced Studies (UBIAS) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/wias\/event\/symposium\/sym_160314.html\">Intercontinental Academia Waseda Workshop In Search of Interdisciplinary Dialogue<\/a>\u201d on March 14. <a href=\"http:\/\/intercontinental-academia.ubias.net\/people\/candidates\">UBIAS<\/a> is an organization which was established for the purpose of promoting international research exchange. From 36 institutions worldwide, 13 young up-and-coming researchers came to Waseda, and with researchers from WIAS, participants engaged in a discussion regarding the concept of time from an interdisciplinary perspective. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/assets\/uploads\/2016\/04\/wias_eyecatch2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40789\" alt=\"wias_eyecatch2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/assets\/uploads\/2016\/04\/wias_eyecatch2.jpg\" width=\"1040\" height=\"780\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/assets\/uploads\/2016\/04\/wias_eyecatch.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40787\" alt=\"wias_eyecatch\" src=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/assets\/uploads\/2016\/04\/wias_eyecatch.jpg\" width=\"1040\" height=\"780\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Following the lectures by WIAS\u2019 Assistant Professors <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/wias\/eng\/researchers\/list\/profile\/prof_y_tahara.html\">Yu Tahara<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/wias\/eng\/researchers\/list\/profile\/prof_r_akiyoshi.html\">Ryota Akiyoshi<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/wias\/eng\/researchers\/list\/profile\/prof_m_abe.html\">Masashi Abe<\/a> and a luncheon, the participants folded and flew paper planes to form random discussion groups. This was an experimental approach to understand how international research topics develop through serendipitous coincidence and the value of sharing ideas globally. Participants couldn\u2019t help but smile at this fun experiment, bringing them back to their childhood.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/assets\/uploads\/2016\/04\/DSC0085.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-40681\" alt=\"_DSC0085\" src=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/assets\/uploads\/2016\/04\/DSC0085-610x406.jpg\" width=\"610\" height=\"406\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/assets\/uploads\/2016\/04\/DSC0701.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-40680\" alt=\"_DSC0701\" src=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/assets\/uploads\/2016\/04\/DSC0701-610x408.jpg\" width=\"610\" height=\"408\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">For researchers with different specializations to collaborate on research involving multiple discussions requires enough accumulated time.
