HE Kazuo Sunaga<\/strong><\/p>\n (Specially Appointed Senior Fellow at National Institute for Defense Studies, Former Japanese Ambassador to Qatar)<\/p>\n Professor Satoru Nakamura<\/strong><\/p>\n (Kobe University)<\/p>\n Last year marked the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between Qatar and Japan, and those 50 years were characterized by mutual trust and fruitful cooperation at all times. Both countries have steadily developed their relationship over the past half century, especially in the energy sector. The stable supply of liquefied natural gas, as well as oil, from Qatar has supported Japan\u2019s economic growth for many years. Both sides are confident that economic, including commercial and investment cooperation as well as people-to-people relations, will only increase. Whilst economic exchange has formed the backbone of Qatar-Japan relationship for more than five decades, it is now developing to be multidimensional, including cooperation in cultural, technical, scientific, defense and security fields. Thanks to the strong political will of both countries and the comprehensive partnership based on cooperative relations, solid foundations for bilateral cooperation have been established and developing in various fields.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Majlis@Waseda\u00a0will discuss and explore Qatar-Japan relations, and pose the following questions to the speakers: What makes Qatar-Japan Relations special? How will this relationship develop in the future? How has each country dealt with the current Russian-Ukrainian crisis? Can Japan play a role in future security architecture in the region, and how does Japan balance its relations with Qatar and other regional players and global powers?
