World politics is going through a significant transformation at present \u2013 the most significant since 1991, and perhaps even since 1945 \u2013 as Russia struggles to save face in its war in Ukraine; as the US shifts its global focus and renews its alliances; as China continues its rise, albeit with new challenges; and as new technologies and energy sources shift global geoeconomics. This first\u00a0Majlis<\/em>\u00a0looks at what this all means for the Gulf. How is the Russian war in Ukraine affecting the Gulf states? Where does the Gulf fit into the Indo-Pacific region and US-China competition there? Why are some long-standing US allies in the region seemingly turning away from Washington? What might a new Iranian nuclear deal mean for the region, if indeed one is agreed? What role might actors such as the EU and India play? How does the future of Syria and Yemen fit into Gulf strategy and politics? Is the importance of the Gulf declining, strategically, economically, or both?<\/p>\n
