Overview
While Quebec province is known for predominant French-speaking population and is the only province which has French as the provincial official language, it is more ethnically diverse area because of the active immigration policy and the integration policy.
Prof. Marie Mc Andrew is a well-known specialist of education of minorities and intercultural education. She talked on how Quebec province has integrated Muslim students in school education, by mainly introducing Bouchard-Taylor report, which investigated the controversies on “Reasonable Accommodation,” the policy for multicultural society Quebec province has adopted.
One of the comments from the students who attended the seminar shows that the actual condition of Muslims in Quebec has been relatively unknown and the lecture played a meaningful role for them; “I had not been so much interested in this seminar because the theme was less familiar with me, but after this seminar I realized that this topic is relevant also for Japan, which could learn the compromising diversity management style from Quebec.”
