Students have the opportunity to engage in research activities under the supervision of their advisors.
\nResearch funds are essential for research activities. Of course, all misuse is strictly prohibited in all research activities, including research projects financed through public subsidies granted by the Japanese government or funded by the private sector.
\nMisusing public research funds will destroy the reputation not only of the researcher himself or herself but also of Waseda University as well, while at the same time causing the university to be held responsible for such misuse as a research institution.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, a series of cases in which public research funds were misused have recently happened at the university. The term \u201cmisuse of research funds\u201d refers not only to the spending or appropriation of public research funds for private purposes but also to the claiming of fictitious honorariums, salaries or travel expenses, in addition to false billing. To eradicate the misuse of research funds, it is essential to create an organizational climate that does not cause research funds to be misused and that prevents such misuse. To this end, Waseda University has set a special awareness month against the misuse of research funds on this occasion. We hope that this will be an opportunity for you not only to deepen your understanding of the proper use of research funds but also to remind yourself to take care so you do not unintentionally caught up in the misuse of research funds.<\/p>\n
