While it is a small country around the same size as Shikoku, it has 4 UNESCO World Heritage sites and is a place blessed with such natural beauty it is called “Europe’s green treasure trove”. The number of tourists to well known sights like Postojna Cave, Europe’s largest, and the “mirror of the alps” Lake Bled, is increasing every year.

Moreover, salt from Piran (a small town in Slovenia), otherwise known as the “salt flower” is very well known for its traditional drying method that solely relies on the sun and wind. This production method is certified as a piece of intangible cultural heritage in Slovenia. Slovenia also has many ski resorts and so is a popular place for snow sports. You probably don’t know this but famous Japanese Ski Jumper Sara Takanashi uses skis made by Slovene manufacturers!

Now at the ICC, we will have an event to introduce Slovene culture to you!

There will be presentations by the Slovene embassy and Slovene students introducing the history and culture of Slovenia. After that there will be a button accordion performance by Japan’s only Slovene music group “Ansambel Planika”, and then a Slovene mini-language lesson.

For the first 100 participants, we have prepared free samples of Piranske Soline’s salt chocolate, which uses salt from the Piran salt field. As well as that, for those who are over 20, there is also a chance to taste Slovene wine for free!

You can’t miss this precious opportunity!

Date & Time

May 15th, 2019 (Wed) 6:15pm-7:45pm (Doors open: 6:00pm)

Venue

Okuma Garden House (1F, Bldg 25)

Eligibility

Waseda students, Staff & General public

Language

English and Japanese

Fee

Free

Registration

Not required

Capacity

150 people

Program

1.
