{"id":8029,"date":"2017-11-10T09:00:53","date_gmt":"2017-11-10T00:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/?p=8029"},"modified":"2017-11-10T10:13:51","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T01:13:51","slug":"icc-chinese-culture-night-featuring-sichuan-the-land-of-abundance-dec-8th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/news\/2017\/11\/10\/8029\/","title":{"rendered":"ICC Chinese Culture Night Featuring Sichuan -The Land of Abundance- (Dec. 8th)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/assets\/uploads\/2017\/11\/da6ef4ad8a23c993eab35da032274cf0-3.pdf\">Poster<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lying in the inland area of China is the province of Sichuan.<br \/>\nFilled with unique natural scenery and lush environments, it is called &#8220;The Land of Abundance&#8221; by Chinese people.<br \/>\nYou can feel the history and heritage of China in places like Dujiangyan City or Jiuzhaigou National Park,and of course there is the wildly popular Giant Panda nature reserve in one of the largest forests in the world, a paradise for rare wild animals.<\/p>\n<p>And of course, when you think of Sichuan, you obviously think of the food!<br \/>\nMapo Tofu, Fuqi Feipian and Chicken in Mala Sauce are just some of the famous Chinese dishes that originated in Sichuan, which stands alongside Beijing, Shanghai and Canton as one of the four great gastronomic areas of Chinese cuisine.<\/p>\n<p>In this event, we want you to feel the charms of Sichuan\u2019s abundance both in nature and heritage.<br \/>\nThere will be presentations by International students from Sichuan as well as by the owner and chef of an authentic Sichuan restaurant here in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>A rare performance of the Sichuanese &#8220;Bian Lian (Face Change) Opera&#8221; also will be performed during this event. First come first served)<\/p>\n<h5>Performer Profile<\/h5>\n<p>Wang WenQiang (Mr. )<\/p>\n<p>Born in Anhui Province, China. He has studied the art of Anhui\u2019s &#8220;Huangmei Opera&#8221; and Sichuan\u2019s &#8220;Bian Lian (Face Change) Opera&#8221; since he was 13 years old and is a performer at the Tongling Art Theater in Anhui. He has done performances and activities promoting cultural understanding in various places including Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea. Currently he is a student at Nihon University College of Art, doing research comparing traditional Chinese Opera with Japanese Kabuki.<\/p>\n<h5>Bian Lian (Face Change) Opera<\/h5>\n<p>One of China\u2019s traditional performing arts. The opera is based around the instantaneous changing of masks by the performer on the stage incredibly quickly. The change is used to show changes in the character\u2019s mood and character. The secret of this technique is said to be a Chinese state secret.
