Through the media we can see that the number of refugees around the world is increasing.
\nPeople are being forced to flee their homes due to persecution and conflict every day.
\nBecause of this, the United Nations is trying to pour the power and resources of the rest of the world into these areas and build a variety of humanitarian support systems to help vulnerable people.<\/p>\n

There are probably many of you who would like to work and support these humanitarian efforts and activities. However just how can you go about doing that?
\n“Where can I get information about this?”
\n“Are there things I should do while I am still a student?”
\n“What type of careers are available in this area?”<\/p>\n

Now the ICC is hosting two talk sessions on this topic called the “ICC Peace and Humanitarian Aid Talk Session Series” (Session No.1: June 23rd. Session No.2: July 6th).<\/p>\n

For session No.2, we present a talk session from Waseda graduate Ms. Rina Komiya.
\nMs. Komiya works for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Kasulu, Tanzania and is responsible for the protection of refugees from Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She will be discussing in detail her work at UNHCR and giving advice on how to prepare for such a career while at university.<\/p>\n

This is a great chance to hear about real experiences working in international humanitarian aid from a Waseda graduate.

After graduating from Waseda School of Law, she received a master’s degree in Human Rights from the London School of Economics (LSE) in the UK.
\nAfter working for UNICEF (Uganda) and the Japan Center for Conflict Prevention (Kenya), she engaged in activities to promote UNHCR and refugee issues in Japan Association for UNHCR.
\nAfterwards she worked at the UNHCR office in Kasulu, Tanzania until December 2016, where she worked to support refugees from Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.<\/p>\n
