{"id":7544,"date":"2017-06-02T17:40:38","date_gmt":"2017-06-02T08:40:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/?p=7544"},"modified":"2024-07-17T10:43:04","modified_gmt":"2024-07-17T01:43:04","slug":"icc-peace-and-humanitarian-aid-talk-session-series-no1-on-the-front-lines-of-peacekeeping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/news\/2017\/06\/02\/7544\/","title":{"rendered":"ICC Talk Session &#8220;Standing on the Front Lines of Peacekeeping and Reconstruction&#8221; with Yuichi Sugawara (2017\/6)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/assets\/uploads\/2017\/06\/15c10b831b0c6ff2dd7f73df7b183046-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Poster<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As everyone knows from media reports, now more than ever there are so-called &#8220;troubled areas&#8221; of the world where disputes and conflicts are ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>And of course it was only in March this year that the Japan Ground Self Defense Force which had been dispatched by the Japanese Government to aid in UN Peacekeeping Operations (PKO) was withdrawn from South Sudan, one of the most conflict-ridden areas in the world today.<\/p>\n<p>Now at the ICC, we are pleased to present a series of lectures from young professionals working in the vanguard of international cooperation.<br \/>\nFirst from Mr. Yuichi Sugawara: a former member of the UN mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) responsible for intelligence and mission analysis.<\/p>\n<p>South Sudan is the newest country in the world and became independent from the Republic of the Sudan in 2011. Mr. Sugawara was responsible for analysis of various levels of intelligence and information that emerged every day from South Sudan that was then sent worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Information and analysis from this kind of special viewpoint is something that you cannot get from the internet or books, but only here as a Waseda student or staff member.<br \/>\nSo if you want to work in the UN in the future, or are interested in the work that goes into peacebuilding and cooperation around the world.<br \/>\nPlease come to our talk session and hear about it from someone who has been on the front lines!<\/p>\n<h6>\u25c6Guest Profile: Mr. Yuichi Sugawara\u25c6<\/h6>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7531 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/assets\/uploads\/2017\/06\/PC110348.jpeg\" alt=\"icc\" width=\"195\" height=\"130\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Graduated from Waseda School of Political Science and Economics in 2010.
