{"id":7400,"date":"2017-04-28T11:00:45","date_gmt":"2017-04-28T02:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/?p=7400"},"modified":"2024-11-13T12:11:04","modified_gmt":"2024-11-13T03:11:04","slug":"icc-field-trip-rice-planting-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/news\/2017\/04\/28\/7400\/","title":{"rendered":"ICC Field Trip: Intercultural exchange through rice planting (2017)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/assets\/uploads\/2017\/04\/60a60ddfed330b23fc31687da054a94a-2.pdf\">\u30db\u309a\u30b9\u30bf\u30fc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Do you love Japanese food?<br \/>\nWith Japanese food, the one ingredient you cannot do without is rice!<br \/>\nRice has been a staple of Japanese cooking for over 3000 years, and these days there are many different names for brands and types of rice that comes from various places around Japan.<\/p>\n<p>At the ICC during spring and autumn, we are holding a fun event where Waseda students from all over the world can grow and harvest rice together!<br \/>\nIn spring we have the &#8220;Rice Planting&#8221; event, where you can have fun planting real rice in the wet muddy field.<br \/>\nAnd in autumn, after a summer of growth, we will host the &#8220;Rice Harvest&#8221; event, where you can harvest the golden ears of rice from the field yourself.<\/p>\n<p>The spring event includes an &#8220;Orientation&#8221;, &#8220;Rice Planting activity&#8221; and a free &#8220;Rice-ball Lunch&#8221;!<\/p>\n<p>Please come and take part in the ICC&#8217;s first rice planting event!<\/p>\n<h5>Date &amp; Time<\/h5>\n<p>May. 27th (Sat.) 2017 \u203bWill take place even during light rain. If the event is cancelled a notification will be posted the day before on the ICC homepage.<\/p>\n<p>8:20am &#8211; 2:00pm.<\/p>\n<h5>Place<\/h5>\n<p>Tokorozawa Campus (Saitama Prefecture). Meet at Kotesashi Station, Finish at Tokorozawa Campus.<\/p>\n<h5>Program<\/h5>\n<p>Orientation \u2192 Rice-planting experience \u2192 Lunch<\/p>\n<h5>Eligibility<\/h5>\n<p>All Waseda University Students<\/p>\n<h5>Language<\/h5>\n<p>English and Japanese<\/p>\n<h5>Fee<\/h5>\n<p>Free (Transportation fee is the responsibility of the participant. It costs 370 yen from Takadanobaba station to Kotesashi station on the Seibu Shinjuku line)<\/p>\n<h5>Clothing<\/h5>\n<p>Bring a hat, towel, something to drink and a change of clothes. Preferably wear a long sleeved top and long pants. We will prepare special footwear for the farming activities, but please be aware that the mud will cover up to your knees so please wear something that you won&#8217;t mind getting dirty.
