The city was completely destroyed and countless\u00a0lives were lost. The Second World War ended over 70 years ago and\u00a0already memories have begun to fade. However is order to prevent\u00a0this from happening again and to work towards a world without\u00a0nuclear weapons, atomic bomb victims have continued to tell their\u00a0stories to the younger generations. Sadly though as each year passes\u00a0the victims grow older and there are less chances to hear their stories.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to contribute to the eradication of nuclear weapons and\u00a0strive for world peace, the ICC, the Global Education Center and the\u00a0Institute of Peace Studies are jointly organizing a lecture event at Waseda.<br \/>\nThe Peace Studies related class &#8220;21st Century World War &amp; Peace&#8221; will\u00a0be opened to the public so that everybody can have the chance to\u00a0listen to an atomic bomb survivor&#8217;s story.<\/p>\n<p>The speaker, Mr. Yoshiro Yamawaki, was 11 years old and only 2.2km\u00a0from the hypocenter when the Atomic Bomb was dropped. Along with his\u00a02 siblings, he searched for his father&#8217;s body, however there weren&#8217;t\u00a0even enough remains left to cremate. It&#8217;s difficult for today&#8217;s young\u00a0generation to imagine such tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>In modern Japan, the debate about the right to collective defense has\u00a0brought up lots of opinions about the best way to be a &#8220;peace-loving nation&#8221;\u00a0while at the same time guarantying security.
