With a history of about 300 years starting from the Edo-period,\u00a0RAKUGO is a traditional Japanese comic story-telling performance where\u00a0a single performer stirs up the audience with laughter through his story.
\nWithout relying on various props, costumes or music, RAKUGO storytellers\u00a0mainly use their narratives and body language to play multiple roles\u00a0and to create different contexts during the performance.<\/p>\n
The guest speaker of this upcoming ICC talk session, Shinoharu Tatekawa,\u00a0who spent his childhood years in America and then graduated from Yale\u00a0University, is one of the few RAKUGO storytellers that can perform in\u00a0both Japanese and in English.<\/p>\n
At this event, he will not only give us an English RAKUGO performance,\u00a0but will also speak about his life changing journey of becoming a RAKUGO\u00a0storyteller after seeing his first RAKUGO act, which eventually led him\u00a0to leave his job at a major Japanese trading company.<\/p>\n
Apart from the above, he will share with us his experiences performing\u00a0English RAKUGO in Japan and abroad along with his personal thoughts on\u00a0the globalization of RAKUGO.
