For most of us the answer is as straight forward\u00a0as simply naming a country, but for some the answer is not as clear.<\/p>\n<p>For those who have spent the majority of their lives in a country different\u00a0from that of their parents&#8217;, their childhood is a jumbled mixture of\u00a0different customs, cultures, and languages resulting in some unique\u00a0developments of personal and cultural identity.<\/p>\n<p>Specializing in the field of stateless people and currently teaching\u00a0a course at Waseda on Chinese diaspora and the globalization of migrants,\u00a0Professor Chen Tien Shi will be sharing with us about her experiences\u00a0growing up as a stateless third culture kid in Yokohama Japan,\u00a0and what views and observations she has accumulated over the years\u00a0regarding the relationship between self identity and culture.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of whether you yourself are a third culture kid or you are\u00a0simply interested in the concept of personal versus cultural identity,\u00a0this talk session will no doubt provide valuable insights into\u00a0an increasingly complex and globalized world.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/assets\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Chen-Tien-Shi-for-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-813\" alt=\"Chen-Tien-Shi-for-web\" src=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/assets\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Chen-Tien-Shi-for-web.jpg\" width=\"160\" height=\"147\" \/><\/a>Guest<br \/>\n<\/strong>Chen Tien Shi<br \/>\nAssociate Professor and founder of NGO Stateless Network<\/p>\n<p>Guest Profile:<br \/>\nAssociate Professor at Waseda University.<br \/>\nShe received her PhD from University of Tsukuba,\u00a0undertook research at Harvard University (1997-2000) and\u00a0conducted postdoctoral studies at the University of Tokyo (2000-2003).<br \/>\nHer research topics include Chinese diaspora, statelessness and\u00a0global migration.
