Present-day Turkmenistan covers land that\u00a0has been at the crossroads of civilizations for centuries, including the\u00a0medieval city of Merv, known as one of the greatest cities of the Islamic\u00a0world and also an important stop on the Silk Road.<\/p>\n<p>The traditional life of the Turkmen people is that of nomadic shepherds,\u00a0and they have long been known for their fine carpets and horses.<br \/>\nModern\u00a0Turkmenistan is a country wealthy in natural resources and in fact it has\u00a0the world&#8217;s fourth largest reserves of natural gas.<br \/>\nSince independence\u00a0from the Soviet Union in 1991, the country has been modernizing rapidly\u00a0and the capital Ashgabat has become a haven for new-age architecture.<\/p>\n<p>In this ICC event we&#8217;ll have a greeting from the Turkmen Ambassador,\u00a0presentations about Turkmen culture and fine carpets as well as a\u00a0mini-fashion show displaying national costumes. Afterwards there&#8217;ll<br \/>\nbe an exhibition of Turkmen carpets along with a Cafe Time with local\u00a0snacks!
