The capital Reykjavik, along with its surrounding areas, is home to two-thirds of the entire population, while the cold and uninhabitable interior consists mainly of treacherous lava fields, dramatic mountains and spectacular glaciers.

After being settled in the year 874 by a Norse chieftain, the island experienced waves of Scandinavian as well as Celtic immigrations in the following centuries. Since then Iceland has been ruled by Norway and later Denmark until it finally became an independent republic in 1944.

In this festival there’ll be a talk from the Icelandic Embassy, presentations from Waseda’s own Icelandic students and a special musical performance by the band “When ‘Airy Met Fairy”.
During the Cafe Exchange Time you’ll also have a chance to try some Icelandic treats!
