Luckily, I was selected through the lottery to attend the ICC event\u2014ICC World Folk Dance Night. Driven by a curious mind and a deep interest in foreign traditions, I applied for it even though I was not quite sure what “folk dance” truly meant.<\/p>\n

The moment I stepped into the venue, I was attracted by the exquisite costumes. Designed and made by the members of the Folk Dance Club themselves, each costume had shown the authentic patterns and vibrant colors of its respective culture. The performers dressed in such beautiful, traditional clothes made the atmosphere so exotic.<\/p>\n

The event began with a lecture on the origins and styles of folk dance across various cultures in the world. I was particularly attracted to the European dance traditions. Unlike many individual performances, these dancers formed large circles or interconnected patterns, which need coordination among each dancer. Especially, I was amazed that anyone can step into the circle and join the dance whenever they like. Dance simply deepens connections between people and increases chances of people interacting with each other.<\/p>\n

Following the talk was a professional performance by the club members. They showcased five distinct dances, spanning across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. I was surprised by the diversity. Accompanied by rhythmic music, the performance was so lively that it felt like being transported to the middle of the streets of those countries far away, watching local people there dancing as a part of their daily life.<\/p>\n

Next, the club members invited us to learn a dance ourselves. We started with basic leg and arm steps, hopping together to the beat of music. Then, we all held hands with the people beside us, forming a connected big circle. Repeating the movements side by side, I felt strong passion and excitement. Though I felt nervous at first, at this moment, I was completely immersed in the warm atmosphere.<\/p>\n

This event made me able to look at distant cultures from a special perspective. Surrounded by music and traditional costumes, I felt warmly embraced by a world far larger than my own, and it made me want to see these dances in person. Above all, it reminded me that music and dance are universal languages\u2014they truly have the power to connect people from different backgrounds.<\/p>\n
