{"id":40497,"date":"2026-01-09T13:50:35","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T04:50:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/?p=40497"},"modified":"2026-01-09T14:31:26","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T05:31:26","slug":"ecc-spt-report-2024-spring-2-2-2-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/icc\/news-en\/2026\/01\/09\/40497\/","title":{"rendered":"Exploring Danish Life Through Conversation &#8211; ICC Danish Dialogue Cafe Participant Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6 style=\"text-align: right;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">feo<br \/>\nSchool of International Liberal Studies<\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">When I received <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">an <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">email announcing the Danish Urban Life Dialogue Caf\u00e9, I was surprised to realize how limited my understanding of Denmark was.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">I knew that Denmark was ranked very highly in life satisfaction, but I had never deeply learnt what makes Danish people live in such high level of happiness. Therefore, I registered for the event.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134245417&quot;:false}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The warm lighting, candles on each table, and calming background music created an environment that encouraged slow, thoughtful conversation. The snacks and drinks were also fascinating. I especially appreciated the non-alcoholic version of hot wine, since I can\u2019t drink alcohol due to my age.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134245417&quot;:false}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The presentation provided a comprehensive introduction to Danish society. There were a large range of information covered, like mindset and interaction between people. Among them, I was mostly impressed by the education. I was surprised that in Denmark schools, children are encouraged to do things they want to do, not simply following somebody else.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134245417&quot;:false}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The group discussion deepened my understanding even further. The guiding questions encouraged us to consider how Nordic values can help us improve our surrounding world. Listening to other participants\u2019 perspectives showed me how people with different cultural backgrounds interpret the same concepts differently.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134245417&quot;:false}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Overall, the Dialogue Caf\u00e9 was a meaningful experience. It allowed me not only to learn about Denmark, but also to think about<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> society carefully.
