I have really enjoyed my time as an SSL so far. I look forward to make more memories as an SSL and interact with different unique and interesting people.

The theme for this blog is songs and chants.

You may ask “but why did you choose this topic?”, and to answer that I would say I honestly do not know. However, reciting chants (not referring to religious chants) or making new rhythms together with other people makes me feel like I am a part of something bug. It is something that has always been very interesting to me. Making chants could be something really simple/ most people generally associate chants with sports events but it can be done absolutely anywhere, whether it be at a small event with your friends and family or even just by yourself when you are feeling down.

Image by Nicholas Green via Unsplash

For example: When there is a function and the crowd want you to get done with the drink/food as fast as possible, they sing the chant “We love to eat/drink with [friend’s name] because [friend’s name] is our mate, and when we eat/drink with [friend’s name], he/she gets it down in 8” and then count down from 8 to 0. Although it is really simple, it makes everyone in the function be a part of something. It is the perfect icebreaker. It makes everyone come closer and might also start a chain of other similar chants.

Image by John Arano via Unsplash

The formula to make a chant-like song is not very hard. All you have to do is to find something that rhymes with a topic and you are good to go. Sometimes, it is not even necessary to rhyme or even make sense. For example: one can just shout “He is our friend Mike, and he moves like a bike”, or even “Michael, Michael, motorcycle”, in a rhythm (you can even sing it to a nursery rhyme and it still works, in fact most chants are sang in the tune of nursery rhymes) and then it becomes a chant once enough people start saying it. It makes no sense but still livens up the mood of everyone around you. Try to come up with a chant and a rhythm and sing it along your friends!

Sil ICC Student Staff Leader Hello everyone!
